Social Media can feel everchanging, and that’s partially because it is! Digital content is being cranked out like it’s nobody’s business, which means that trends are moving faster than ever, and we know it can be hard to keep up. Like they say in Project Runway (any fans out there?), “One day you’re in, the next day you’re out,” and the same can be said about Social Media trends.
It truly takes a lot of time and energy to stay on top of trends. As business owners and creatives, we have to first take the time to consume content to even know what the cool kids are doing these days. Next, we have to create our own version of the trend that aligns with our brand. Then, within a week or so, a new trend is rising to the top and the process starts all over again. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by that, you’re not alone and we’re here to ease your mind!
So, here’s our two cents.
You don’t need to hop on every trend.
Choose the content and trends that resonate with your brand and audience and/or fits your niche. When you come across trends, ask yourself a few simple questions:
- Is there a way I can effectively adapt this trend to fit my brand? If the answer is yes…
- Will my audience find value in this particular piece of content? (Will they be educated in a creative way? Will they learn more about my services? Will it make them stop and check out my website? etc.)
- Does this trend fit into the niche that I’m working in or toward?
We are constantly consuming media, more of it invaluable than not, so give yourself time to reflect on these questions to evaluate if particular trends will stand out to your audience, be valuable to them, and grow your business.
You’re allowed to be the trendsetter.
Original content is still king in SO many situations, especially with our good friend Instagram.
It can be easy to get stuck constantly trying to keep up with trends and doing what everyone else in your pool of influence is. Frankly, the digital world is saturated and while trends are fun and engaging, people value unique, original content.
Blaze your own trail and allow yourself to be creative! Think outside the box because, who knows, you may be the next trendsetter and wouldn’t that be the coolest thing ever?
